Cet atelier permettra de distinguer les différentes classes de mots à l’aide d’une stratégie pour réussir les accords grammaticaux. En effet, les règles varient selon la classe du mot (déterminant, nom, verbe, etc.) et un même mot peut changer de classe selon le contexte syntaxique. Par exemple, tout peut être un déterminant, un nom, un pronom ou un adverbe; doute peut être un nom ou un verbe.

Cet atelier pratique propose une formation qui vous en apprendra davantage sur l’enseignement de l’oral en vous donnant des exemples concrets et en vous apportant de nouvelles ressources. Une façon simple de créer des ateliers formatifs pour tous les objets de l’oral (débit, posture, réfutation, etc.) sera explicitée et des exemples vécus en classe seront présentés.

Spoken word combines strong writing with strong performance. It is an umbrella term for everything from poetry to hip hop, storytelling to SLAM. This session will expose teachers to spoken word and provide means to get students writing, performing and critiquing their own creations. There will be live performance, A/V material, hands-on and sample activities, critical discourse as well as resources offered to connect schools to the larger picture of festivals and community involvement.

This workshop offers teachers a hands-on approach to what talking and writing looks like the in the Elementary Classroom (Grades 1 - 6). We will explore how to encourage talking to learn and how this positively influences student writing. Using group generated rubrics, we will look at the important elements of student writing that run right through the grades. Come prepared to talk, write, learn and laugh together and leave with a fresh approach for your next writing class.
The Daily 5:
A Daily Routine for Reading and Writing

This workshop will include a brief introduction to the Daily 5, it's major components and key features. Attendees will have the opportunity to " see" the Daily 5 classroom set up and view the students in action (via video).
Teachers will be provided with a variety of hands-on materials to use in each of the Daily 5 activities. The workshop is geared towards grades 1-4. Ideally, it would be beneficial for participants to have an iPad or laptop to access the recommended websites during part 2 of the workshop.
Best Practices in Reading and Writing Instruction: Helping all your students succeed

Reading and writing are among the most complex cognitive tasks children learn at school. It should be no surprise, then, that many students struggle in the area of language arts. The challenge teachers face is further complicated by the significant range of learning needs that define most classes. This workshop will share best practices in reading and writing instruction with a particular focus on how teachers can differentiate instruction so that the needs of all their students are met. Participants will explore various teaching strategies and activities in active ways that allow them to experience many research-based approaches.

This workshop will begin with a discussion of the ways in which the Physical Education and Health program in Quebec is designed to allow students of all ability levels to experience success. Teachers will have the opportunity to exchange ideas on how to accommodate the wide-range of skill levels amongst students within the same learning activity. The second part of this workshop will consist of an active session in the gym. Learning and Evaluation Situations such as Fitness and Jump Rope will be used to highlight ways to organize classes so that students can be challenged at their own level. Activities that give students the opportunity to practice sportsmanship skills will also be introduced.
Cet atelier débutera par une discussion portant sur la manière dont le programme d’éducation physique et à la santé du PFEQ permet aux élèves possédant différentes habiletés de connaitre une expérience pédagogique enrichissante. Les enseignants auront la possibilité de partager les stratégies qu’ils emploient afin de composer avec la variété d’habiletés qui se retrouvent leur classe. La deuxième partie de cette formation sera constituée d’une session pratique qui aura lieu dans un gymnase. Des situations d’apprentissage et d’évaluation telles que Fitness et Jump Rope seront mises de l’avant afin de mettre en évidence diverses manières d’organiser sa classe afin que chaque élève puissent travailler à leur propre niveau. Cet atelier fera également la promotion d’habiletés favorisant un environnement pédagogique sain.

The projects is a photography scavenger hunt. I have about 20 items that the student has to find around the school. Such as taking a picture of a something organic, geometrical, primary/secondary color, create a composition with foreground middle ground and background etc.. The second project is close-up photography. The student has to find a subject matter that has interesting characteristics like: light and shadow, form, texture, color, and then, with the camera, zoom in so fare that it creates an abstract painting/picture. Then the teacher has to try and guess what the original picture was.

Using curriculum Mapping as an effective planning tool to establish a continuum of learning and evaluation situations (LESs) throughout the year as part of best teaching and learning practices. The essence of Curriculum Mapping is to allow teachers the opportunity to reflect on best teaching and learning practices while highlighting the different QEP components; LESs, Progression of Learning (POL) and Competencies. This will encourage “a big picture approach” of the pedagogical expectations and goals in mathematics keeping the end in mind. In this hands-on workshop, teachers will have a chance to look through a bank of Situational Problems and application questions and choose the ones that would be the most appropriate for their students.

Fostering Algebraic Thinking

Based on the work of Mark Driscoll we will look at the three important aspects of algebraic thinking that Driscoll calls the algebraic habits of mind. Through the lens of these algebraic habits of mind we explore critical challenges mathematics teachers face when teaching algebra: - How do we help students develop algebraic thinking from their existing number sense and arithmetic skills? - How do we help students develop the ability to generalize about functions and relations? - How do we help students develop the ability to generalize about structure and the way operations work? - How do we help students develop in understanding, using and linking multiple representations? By the end of the session, we will have reflected on how we think about algebra and how this way of thinking can inform our practice.

Assessment is a core task of teaching and an essential part of a successful classroom. Classroom assessments are essential feedback about what our students have learned. In this workshop we will explore the role of assessing our students and investigate different methods for assessing in the Judaic Studies classroom. Please come to this session with one test, quiz or project that you would like to rework during our hands-on workshop. We will be looking at many examples of different types of Judaic Studies assessments, asking ourselves what we want to accomplish, and working in small groups to revise our own work. You will leave this session with a new assessment that you can implement and many resources to help you design future assessments for your students.

CIE: Novel and Experiential Approaches to the Teaching of Israel

There will be a one day seminar on experiential methods in the teaching of Israel by the Centre for Israel Education with Richard Walter and Eli Sperling. The day will begin with joint elementary and high school sessions on the Origins of Jewish Peoplehood and Foundations of Zionism as well as using electronic media to teach Israel.
Elementary and High School teachers will split for the second half of the day:
Elementary: Primary Sources in Primary grades: Using Israel’s Declaration of Independence; Case Studies in Israel and Zionist History and An Interactive approach to Jewish Immigration to Israel.
High School: The Zionist Arab Conflict in Palestine to 1949; Zionist and Israeli Identity through Music; Narratives, Media and History: How Do They Differ and How Do We Know?
These sessions will not only teach Israel but also how to teach it in novel and engaging ways.
